EXCERPT FROM THE NOVEL
Chapter “Reap What You Sow”
The sudden sound of hurried footsteps brought Pamu out of his reflection. He found Sathi running up to him, panting from her morning game. She crashed into him and climbed onto his lap as he looked down at her and caressed her hair.
Once she caught her breath, she asked, “Daddy, Appa, what are you making today?
“Well, we have been working on a new pastry. It will be even more feather-light and fluffy!”
Sathi gazed at the small fluffy clouds above her, then licked her lips at the thought of eating a pastry.
She lifted her head and asked, “Can you put the sky in a pastry?”
Pamu laughed, “That is an interesting idea.”
Sathi’s curiosity soon had her sitting up. “What about making a fish pond soup? I would love to see fish swimming in my bowl!” Her eyes widened. “Can you make a sweet candy dessert out of small stones?” she added.
Her waterfall of questions always delighted Pamu, and always made his mind stir. “My dear Sathi, where do you come up with your ideas?”
“Daddy, you!”
ARTIST’S INTERPRETATION
“Ah, the garden of childhood, when discovery seemed endless.”
In “The Spice Temple –The Journey Begins,” a young character named Sathi embodies the playfulness many of us have long forgotten. She reminds us of what we once were — and what we could continue to be, if only we could remember how. When was the last time you let yourself bend the fabric of your reality? When was the last time you ran unencumbered through streams of sunshine or rain? When was the last time you spoke to the trees or invented new friends? It was too easy to discard our imaginations somewhere along the path we wandered, erroneously believing they were meant to be cast away. A dream is a buoy that keeps you floating.
So what does the sky taste like to you? What would you see differently if you could lift the veils of adulthood and just feel free?
BIOGRAPHY OF TINYRAINBOOT
new media artist and internet diarist ✨ linktr.ee/tinyrainboot
i like to view my life as an anthropological expedition:
why am i here?
what does it mean to be human?
and is this really all there is?
i use writing and art as means to elaborate upon those questions. much of my work centers upon the present pivotal moment: never before have we been so connected, yet felt so lost.
the internet has been both friend and foe to me since my early teenage years, becoming irrevocably woven into my modes of expression and sense of self. the internet is my diary; pages and scraps of who i was, and who i am, are scattered across its void.
i create not only as a compulsion, but also as a plea:
is anybody out there?
can anybody hear me?
